Alex Rodriguez to Meet with MLB About Poker Games Friday
Alex Rodriguez told reporters Tuesday that he will be meeting with the MLB on friday to discuss his participation in underground poker games. He told reporters before the Yankees game against Oakland that he "can't wait" for the meeting in Baltimore.
A report from the New York Daily News said that the officials from the MLB "seemed more interested in telling Rodriguez to avoid awkward situations than disciplining him."
The meeting comes after a report claimed that Rodriguez was a participant in at least two underground games that involved drug use and violence after a player refused to pay a debt of over $500,000.
Rodriguez is said to have distanced himself from the game after it took a violent turn and it is not the first time that he has been in trouble for involvement in underground gambling. In 2005 he was warned by the Yankees and commissioner Bud Selig that involvement in these games could produce troubling relationships with gamblers. If it was found that these gamblers were able to influence Rodriguez's performance in games he could receive a lifetime ban from baseball.
