Ex Nets Star Jayson Williams Under Psychiatric Evaluation

Former NBA star Jayson Williams, 41, is under psychiatric evaluation at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan after he became violent and suicidal in his hotel room.

Police received a disturbance call to Williams’ room at Embassy Suites in Battery Park City around 4 a.m. Monday morning. The former New Jersey Nets center had trashed his room and “appeared suicidal.” He became violent with officers, forcing them to subdue him with a Taser gun.  

This isn’t Williams’ first run-in with the law. In 2002, he was charged with the shooting death of his limo driver Costas Christofi. Prosecutors alleged Williams was playing with a shotgun when the weapon went off, killing Christofi. Williams was eventually acquitted of all murder charges but did pay $2.75 million to Christofi’s family in a wrongful death lawsuit.
