2009 Kentucky Derby: "I Want Revenge" Tops List of Contenders, Odds

The complete list of entries, odds and contenders for the 2009 Kentucky Derby were released on Monday. The Kentucky Derby 135, named for its 135^th anniversary, will take place May 2 at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

“I Want Revenge” tops the list of contenders with 5:2 odds. “Dunkirk” and “Pioneerof the Nile” follow “I Want Revenge” with 9:2 odds and 6:1 odds, respectively. “Fresian Fire” is close behind with 13:2 odds, while “Chocolate Candy” (14:1), “Papa Clem” (15:1), and “Desert Party” are lumped together further behind.

“I Want Revenge” won the field at the Wood Memorial and “Pioneerof the Nile” won the Santa Anita Derby. “Dunkirk”, who was previously undefeated, came in second in the Florida Derby to “Quality Road”, who was selected for the Kentucky Derby, but will not participate due to injury.
