NBA Scores Western Conference Playoffs: Denver Nuggets Blast New Orleans Hornets by 58, Grab 3-1 Series Lead

Carmelo Anthony scored 26 points, dished out 7 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds, Chauncey Billups added 17 points and 8 assists and Chris Andersen finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets embarrassed the New Orleans Hornets 121-63 on Monday night to take a 3-1 lead in their Western Conference playoff series.

Things got ugly for the Hornets quick as the Nuggets opened with a 19-6 spurt and after Chris Paul hit a jumper to keep New Orleans within 11 Denver went on a 14-3 run that put them in front 33-11 before the frame ended at 36-15 with Billups scoring 9 and Anthony dropping 8 points. The best New Orleans could do in the second quarter was cut their deficit to 17 as Denver continued to bury open shots while the Hornets struggled, leaving the score 61-39 at the break.

It just got worse in the third quarter as the Nuggets quickly inflated their lead to 72-41 with Billups and Anthony burying triples during an 11-0 run. New Orleans hit just three field goals in the third quarter and none over the final six minutes of the frame, a stretch in which Denver outscored them 14-2 to put the score at 88-50. Denver moved in front by 50 with a 13-0 run midway through the final quarter and the Hornets showed absolutely no effort in stopping the rout.

Denver shot 56 percent from the floor including 10-20 from beyond the three-point line while the Hornets were a dismal 31 percent and 2-15 from long-range.
