It’s great to be Jane Lynch these days. She has a plum role on the hit show Glee and will host this year’s Emmy Awards. But in her upcoming autobiography, Happy Accidents, she admits that alcohol abuse once marred her life and took the joy out of her work.
The Emmy-winning actress explains that in the early ‘90s while working in New York she was so unhappy that she turned to beer and eventually cough syrup before realizing that she had become an alcoholic, according to the New York Post.
Lynch had relocated from Chicago to New York City to star in The Real Live Brady Bunch, a stage show spoofing the iconic ‘70s family sitcom. She eventually gave up beer, but then began taking NyQuil every night before bed. Although the over-the-counter medication has alcohol in it, Lynch says she considered herself “on the wagon.”
She eventually came clean to her cast mates, admitting her habit had landed her in AA. Ironically, the admission came while the group was smoking pot together.
Lynch’s new book is scheduled to release Sept. 18.
