NBA Scores Western Conference Playoffs: Dallas Mavericks Advance after Knocking Off San Antonio Spurs

Dirk Nowitzki scored 31 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Josh Howard added 17 points and 8 boards and Jason Terry finished with 19 points as the Dallas Mavericks went on the road and knocked off the San Antonio Spurs 106-93 on Tuesday night to take their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series 4-1 and now advance and will face the winner of the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets series.

Dallas looked dominant in the opening frame as they jumped to a 24-10 lead and finished the quarter in front 31-20 with Nowitzki scoring 11 and Howard adding 8 points. The Mavericks extended their lead back up to 14 in the second quarter after a Terry jumper but a three-minute scoreless spell allowed the Spurs back into the game as they climbed to within 45-37 and finished the half strong with a three-pointer from George Hill to cut their deficit to 52-48.

The Mavericks built some breathing room in the opening minutes of the third as they led by ten but six straight points from Tim Duncan had the Spurs back to within four with 5:56 left in the frame. Nowitzki then ignited a 9-0 run for the Mavs that once again put San Antonio in a 13-point hole and the Dallas lead would be 82-67 at the end of the quarter when Jason Kidd hit a triple at the buzzer. San Antonio tried to put together runs in the fourth but the Dallas offense seemed to answer with buckets of their own and the Spurs never got closer than ten.
