LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Brandon Roy added 25 points and Steve Blake finished with 15 points and 7 boards as the Portland Trail Blazers managed to keep their season alive after knocking off the Houston Rockets 88-77 on Tuesday night to pull to within 3-2 in their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series.
Portland came out firing in the opening frame as they had their perimeter game going and built a 23-13 lead with 3:53 left in the frame but the Rockets closed their deficit with a 13-6 run that brought them to within 29-26 heading into the second. The Trail Blazers boosted their lead back to nine in the first 2:30 of the second but a three minute scoreless spell opened the door for the Rocket sand they closed their deficit 35-32 before Brandon Roy hit a layup to snap the drought for Portland. The Blazers would again push their lead to ten with 1:31 left in the half but Yao Ming scored five straight and Houston was within five but they gave up a layup to Roy at the end of the half and trailed 50-43 at the break.
Houston fell behind by 11 early in the third quarter but used a 12-2 run to get within one and after Aldridge pushed the Blazers lead to three Aaron Brooks buried a three-pointer and the Rockets finally pulled even at 60-60. With the score tied 62-62 Aldridge put Portland back in front 64-62 with a jumper and that would be the score heading into the fourth. The Rockets opened with the first six points in the final frame and it looked like they may have the Blazers on the ropes but Roy ignited a 15-0 run that gave them a 79-68 lead and Houston never recovered.
Portland had a big advantage at the foul-line as they finished the night 16-23 from the stripe while Houston was just 8-10.
