NBA Eastern Conference Playoff Schedule: Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat Meet with Series Edge at Stake

The Atlanta Hawks return to their home court on Wednesday night and will square off with the Miami Heat in Game 5 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff matchup with the series edge at stake.

Atlanta is coming off a huge Game 4 win in Miami that evened the series at 2-2 and they’re now in position to regain the series advantage. The Hawks blasted the Heat in Game 1 as they held Dwyane Wade in check and his supporting cast was non-existent. That all changed in Game 2 as Wade not only scored but got plenty of help from Daequan Cook and Udonis Haslem and Miami hit 15-26 from beyond the three-point line.

With the series shifting to Miami for Game 3 it looked like the Hawks could be in some serious trouble and that became a reality after they were pasted 107-78 with the Heat offense once again putting on a show. Things were looking dim for the Hawks but a Game 4 victory sparked by big games from Josh Smith and Zaza Pachulia brought Atlanta new life and they could grab a series lead with a win on Wednesday.

It’s no secret what the Heat will do as they feed Wade the ball but he is still hurting from Game 4 and how affective he will be remains to be seen. Miami will need to see some role players step up if they are to steal the win but Atlanta will almost certainly look to put sustained defensive pressure on Miami. It was defense that won the game for the Hawks in Games 1 and 4 and a lack of it that cost them Games 2 and 3.
