NBA Scores Eastern Conference Playoffs: Atlanta Hawks Grab Series Lead with Win Over Miami Heat

Joe Johnson scored 25 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists, Flip Murray added 23 points and 5 boards and Josh Smith finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks knocked off the Miami Heat 106-91 on Wednesday to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series.

Miami jumped to an 8-4 lead in the opening quarter and held a small lead until Maurice Evans put the Hawks in front with a three-pointer with 5:22 left in the frame. The Heat managed to tie the game twice before Atlanta grabbed the lead for good on a Joe Johnson layup and the Hawks carried a 24-20 advantage into the second. Things went downhill from there for the Heat as Atlanta used a 14-2 run to build a 40-25 lead. The Hawks put 39 points on the board in the second with Joe Johnson scoring 13 points and led 63-40 at the break.

The Heat tried to climb back into the game early in the third as Dwyane Wade scored 8 points during a 13-4 spurt that pulled them to within 14 but the Hawks buckled down and would lead 85-70 heading into the fourth. In the final frame Atlanta showed no signs of letting up as they never let the Heat cut into their lead and were up by as many as 22 before Miami closed the game on a 9-2 spurt.

Atlanta capitalized on their ability to get to the foul-line as they shot 33-41 from the stripe while the Heat were 25-32 from the line.
