Rooney Scores Hat Trick as Manchester United Dominates Arsenal

Wayne Rooney's hat trick against Arsenal on Sunday was bad enough for the losing side to endure, but conceding eight goals in a league game for the first time in over a century may be more embarrassing.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said, "You feel humiliated when you concede eight goals. It was a terrible day for us, it was a combination of an under-strength team and weakness."

The game leaves Arsenal with a single point after three league games, none of which they have been able to finish at full strength. Meanwhile Manchester United is leading the league after three consecutive wins and a higher goal differential than the Manchester City club.

Rooney's first goal came before the half on a free kick and the halftime score was only 3-1. Rooney scored again in the 64th minutes on another free kick and three minutes later United scored again. Rooney's final goal came in the 82nd minute off a penalty shot.

It was the first time that United has scored eight goals in a game since 1999.
