August 29, 2011 (Nashville, TN) – Palm Springs, California-based treatment center Michael’s House was recently awarded a rare Exemplary Standard on their 2011 CARF Survey. CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, ensures that treatment facilities adhere to the highest quality standards in treatment, awarding accreditations for a three-year period after an in-depth review of a facility’s services, procedures and business practices.
Notable in this recent review was the Patient-Centered Care Initiative (PCCI), a program in place at Michael’s House and all of Foundations Recovery Network’s treatment facilities. The initiative, which includes a comprehensive data gathering system, relies on ongoing feedback from patients, families and referrers to continuously evaluate and improve programs and services.
PCCI gives Michael’s House the unique benefit of viewing treatment through the eyes of patients – seeing both the good and the bad. Information is gathered through targeted surveys administered throughout the treatment process, from admissions to aftercare. FRN’s 75-page process manual for Patient-Centered Care details the goals and expectations for each phase of the treatment process, ensuring their entire team remains on the same page. An article on PCCI by Michael’s House CEO Krista Gilbert will also appear in a future issue of CARF’s Promising Practices newsletter.
While the main goal of this information gathering has been to improve their programs and services, it has also had the additional benefit of giving patients more of a voice in the treatment process. Another result has been consistently higher patient satisfaction scores.
Michael’s House is serious about its commitment to promote effective, evidence-based, integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. Their goal is to do their best for each customer by creating a consistently high-quality experience at every point of contact, beginning with the search for treatment options and progressing through admission, treatment, discharge and on-going support.
