Lawyer Mark Levy Found Dead in Kilpatrick Stockton's DC Office

Mark Levy, the chair of Kilpatrick Stockton's Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy practice, died in the firm's DC office Thursday morning. He was 47.

Levy apparently committed suicide and was found dead on the 11th floor of the DC office of Kilpatrick Stockton, one of the nation's prominent law firms. The cause of death was reportedly a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

According to Metropolitan Police Department officers near the firm's offices at 607 14th Street N.W., a male individual committed suicide this morning at the 600 block of 14th Street N.W.

"There was a death at Kilpatrick Stockton earlier today," said Kilpatrick Stockton spokesperson John Page in a statement. "At this point, it is inappropriate for us to comment further. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the attorney's family and colleagues."

Levy, who graduated from Yale University in 1971 and from Yale Law School in 1975, served as deputy assistant Attorney General during the Clinton administration before returning to private practice, according to his firm bio.

The Fulton County Daily Report reported Wednesday that Kilpatrick had laid off 24 associates and counsel across U.S. offices.

Kilpatrick Stockton LLP is a full-service international law firm with more than 500 attorneys in ten offices across the globe: Atlanta and Augusta, GA.; Charlotte, Raleigh and Winston-Salem, NC.; New York, NY; Washington, D.C.; Dubai; London; and Stockholm.
