More Businesses Qualify for the Second Annual Downtown Clearwater Momentum Awards

The Clearwater Downtown Partnership hosts its second annual Momentum Awards recognizing businesses and individuals that have been key to the expansion of downtown Clearwater and its Cleveland Street District. This year more businesses have been an integral force in contributing to Clearwater’s expansion.

The Clearwater Downtown Partnership (CDP) is holding its second annual Downtown Clearwater Momentum Awards event on May 13th at 5:30 pm in the newly renovated Fort Harrison Hotel.  The event will celebrate the businesses, organizations, individuals and projects that have contributed to the economic “energization” of Downtown.  This year, more downtown businesses have made the grade and contributed to Clearwater’s expansion far beyond the efforts of last year.  The Master of Ceremonies will be Nancy Howe, publisher of the Maddux Business Report, and the Keynote Speaker will be Robert Freeman, CEO of Ruth Eckerd Hall.  Many City and County Officials have confirmed as well as many of Clearwater’s finest and most successful business leaders.

The CDP Board and Committee Chairs have chosen the 2009 nominee selections in four categories.  The CDP Board, its Committee Chairs and Advisory Board and members will vote for each category and reveal the winner from each at their evening event.

Categories are:

  • Most Improved Property -- The exterior and/or interior of a completed downtown project that significantly contributes to the beauty, livability, uniqueness and/or attraction of visitors.

  • Individual Contribution -- An individual who goes above and beyond to make downtown a better place to live, work, invest or visit.

  • Business Sustainability – A retail or restaurant business that has shown incredible staying power through the multitude of downtown issues that have evolved over the past few years.

  • Best/Most Creative Marketing Plan A business that has shown outstanding creativity and tenacity in utilizing marketing techniques to bring customers in their doors.

There will also be an Honorary Special Downtown Clearwater Humanitarian Award announced.

Our Cleveland Street District and Downtown Clearwater businesses have come together to put Clearwater on the map,” said Bill Sturtevant, CDP Chair.  “There are many great candidates that have contributed to [Downtown’s] expansion…each year it becomes a tougher choice on who to vote for.”
