NBA Scores Eastern Conference Playoffs: Orlando Magic Advance After Knocking Off Sluggish Philadelphia 76ers

Rashard Lewis scored 29 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Rafer Alston added 21 points and 10 assists and Marcin Gortat finished with 11 points, 15 boards and 4 steals playing in place of the suspended Dwight Howard to lift the Orlando Magic to a surprising 114-89 blowout of the Philadelphia 76ers to win their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series 4-2. Orlando will now play the winner of the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls series.

Playing without Dwight Howard and Courtney Lee the Magic were given little chance against the 76ers but they came out in the first quarter ready to play as they built a 13-5 lead and were up 30-15 after Altson hit a short jumper, his 12^th point of the quarter, with 1:05 left in the frame. Philly closed with the final four points but it was obvious that Orlando was determined to prove a point. The 76ers managed to climb to within 35-30 after Lou Williams buried a three-pointer with 8:55 left in the half. Orlando responded to the Philly run and pushed their lead back to 12 on a three-pointer from Hedo Turkoglu and that was boosted to 15 on a Rashard Lewis bucket and the lad would be as many as 17 before Philly trimmed their deficit to 62-48 at the break.

Orlando provided few opportunities for Philly to get back in the third but couldn’t put the 76ers away until they used a 9-0 run to jump in front 87-65 with 2:09 left in the frame. Despite that run the 76ers finished the quarter on a 7-0 spurt and were back within 87-72. Philadelphia never could climb out of the double-digit hole they were in though and when Orlando went on a 10-2 run to build a 101-77 lead the game was clearly over.

The Magic shot 53 percent from the floor and 12-26 from beyond the three-point line with J.J. Redick hitting 5-7 from that distance. Philadelphia struggled from the floor, hitting just 40 percent on the night.
