A
Vietnamese refuge living in Alabama has been sentenced to death for throwing
four children off a bridge in January 2008.
In
March Lam Luong was convicted of the four murders by a Mobile jury after they
heard how he threw the children from the Dauphin Island Bridge 80 feet below
into the sea. Luong said that all four children were alive when they hit the water,
a fact that further disturbed the jury.
Three
of the children, Hannah, 2, Lindsey, 1, and Danny, four-months, were Luong’s
with his common-law wife Kieu Phan. The fourth child, Ryan, 3, was Phan’s from a
previous relationship.
Luong’s
defense attorney pled with the judge to sentence his client to life in prison
without the possibility of parole, arguing that he had been addicted to drugs
and was depressed but the judge showed no leniency in the decision and ordered
Luong be shown pictures of the four children each day he spends on death row.
