Two years ago on May 3, Madeleine McCann disappeared
while vacationing in Portugal with her parents. A massive search and investigation
in to the 3-year-old’s disappearance was launched but didn’t uncover any
concrete evidence.
The toddler’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, are now
speaking out about Madeleine’s abduction in a new interview on the Oprah
Winfrey show.
Kate McCann admits she still struggles with thoughts of
the worst that could have happened to Madeleine. “I do. As a mom, inevitably
there are times when I do. There are the times that I kind of dip down,” she
says.
Gerry McCann says the tragedy has brought their family
closer together. “A child abduction…could destroy any family. There’s no doubt
about it. It’s one of the most devastating things. But…I think it’s helped us
stay strong and stay together,” he said.
Even two years after Madeleine’s abduction, the McCann’s aren’t
giving up hope she will return home unharmed. Kate reveals she still visits her
daughter’s room every day. “It's all ready. I go in about twice a day. Morning
and evening, [I] just say hello. Tell her we're still going, you know, we're
going to do everything we can to find her,” Kate adds.
Winfrey’s interview with the McCann’s airs Monday.
