A
Hong Kong hotel has been sealed off and all its guests placed under quarantine
after a man fell ill and was eventually diagnosed as having the swine flu
virus.
Police
have been stationed at the exits of the hotel to ensure nobody leaves as each
of the nearly 200 guests and 100 staff are tested and given the antiviral drug
Tamiflu. The 25-year-old man who had been diagnosed with the H1N1 virus is now
in the hospital.
This
is China’s first confirmed case of swine flu and the government has promised to
do all it could to keep the virus in check. The man diagnosed with the virus
was said to have travelled from Mexico to Hong Kong and was staying at the Metropark
Hotel in Wanchai district when he fell sick.
The
hotel will now be sealed off for seven days while officials determine if there are
any health dangers that are posed. While special attention is being paid to the
hotel there are already fears that the virus would evolve into an outbreak as
no information is known about other people who may have come into contact with the
man.
