Mine That Bird Pulls Off Huge Upset, Captures 135th Running of Kentucky Derby

In one of the biggest upsets in the 135 years of the Kentucky Derby the 50-1 long-shot Mine That Bird ridden by Calvin Borel crushed the field and captured the garland of roses.

Sitting deep in the pack on the turn for home Borel guided Mine That Bird along the rail and in a sudden burst of speed the 3-year-old colt breezed past the bigger names and crossed the line without a horse in sight.

Finishing in a distant second was Pioneerof the Nile while Musket Man crossed the line in third.

For Borel it was the second Kentucky Derby win in three years and the exuberant jockey played to the crowd in a victory trot before making his way to the winners circle.
