Manny Pacquiao Scores a TKO in the Second round at 2:59 over Ricky Hatton
Manny Pacquiao the pound for pound king of the ring in
the world took on Ricky “Hit Man” Hatton. Hatton’s only defeat prior to tonight
came at the end of a punch thrown by the son of Hatton’s trainer Mayweather Sr.
son Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was buzzing
before this one started leaving the crowd possibly more nervous than the two
fighters, Pacquiao’s mother included. Pacquiao’s mother made her first journey
from the Phillipines to the United States to come watch her son fight for the
very first time but decided against it a few days ago. Pacquiao’s mother
changed her mind and opted to find a quiet place to pray for her son during his
highly anticipated bout with Rick Hatton.
Both fighters weighed in at Hatton at 140 Pacquiao at
138. Both fighters are 30 years of age with a 2 inch reach advantage going to
Manny Pacquiao while the height advantage went to Hatton by a half inch.
Hatton chose to come out first claiming to be the
challenger because of Pacquiao being proclaimed to be the best pound for pound
fighter in the world.
This is what happened when the opening bell rang and
these two fighters met in the middle of the ring to clash, Hatton vs Pacquiao 1
was under way. Manny appeared to be wrestling in the first moments of round one
while Hatton came out swinging in the first minute of the first round. The
fighters tied each other up early and in the first round until Pacquiao knocked
down Hatton twice in the first round. Pacquiao’s speed was far too much for
Hatton to handle. Had it not been for the bell Hatton probably wouldn’t have
made it out of round one if not for the bell.
Pacquiao’s speed continued to confuse Hatton in the
second round catching Hatton with his blinding speed knocking Hatton out in the
with one second to go in the second round. Ricky Hatton was down and looked
completely dazed. The doctors were all over Hatton seeing if the fighter even
knew where he was. The left hook to Ricky Hatton’s chin was one of the best
punches we have seen a fighter get hit with knocking Hatton to the canvas.
Hattons fiancé was visibly shaken up in fear after the horrific knock out. The
TKO came at 2:59 of the second round sending Hatton back to Manchester, England.
Hatton and Pacquiao were highlighted over the past
weeks on HBO following each fighter and their trainers. Pacquiao’s trainer
Freddie Roach who once trained Mickey Rourke was confident in his preparation
of his fighter claiming throughout the HBO special that he has the better
fighter. Ricky Hatton’s trainer the not so quiet nor humble Mayweather Sr.
showed no signs of fear or lack of arrogance when discussing his fighter Hatton
or himself claiming he (Mayweather) is the best in the world as a trainer. After
the fight you could hear chatting from the winners corner claiming Freddie
Roach is the best trainer.
The Stars filled up the MGM with Jay Z, Mariah Carey
and husband Nick Cannon, P Diddy, Cedric the Entertainer and the legends Jack
Nicholson and Denzel Washington led the star studded in attendance.
