Avalanche Near Austrian Ski Resort Kills Six

The bodies of six Czech climbers have been recovered near the ski resort of Soelden in the Austrian Alps, one day after they were buried by an avalanche while attempting to scale a nearby mountain.

Rescue efforts had to be halted on Saturday because of poor weather but on Sunday a helicopter was dispatched and the bodies were found. A seventh climber who was part of the group but opted not to make the ascent was able to identify the members of his party.

The climbers had been attempting to reach the peak of Schalfkogel and where believed to be about 500m from the top when the avalanche occurred.
