NBA Scores Eastern Conference Playoffs: Atlanta Hawks Put Together Dominant Performance, Drop Miami Heat in Game 7

Joe Johnson scored 27 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists, Josh Smith added 21 points and 9 boards and Mike Bibby finished with 11 points and 6 assists as the Atlanta Hawks built a huge second half lead and cruised to a 91-78 victory over the Miami Heat in Game 7 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series and now advance to face the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Dwyane Wade did what he could to get the Heat started as he scored ten of his team’s first 18 points as Miami led by four with 2:29 left in the opening frame. Atlanta erased that deficit over the final two minutes as they closed with a 6-0 spurt to go in front 20-18 heading into the second. Miami stayed closed over the first three minutes, trailing by just two but Atlanta hit three straight triples to push their advantage to 33-22 and led by as many as 16 before settling with a 49-36 lead at the break.

Miami failed to cut into the Hawks lead in the third quarter as they struggled to find their range on the perimeter and Atlanta continued to answer each time the Heat scored. Joe Johnson had a 10-point frame for the Hawks and they actually boosted their lead to 68-52 heading into the fourth. Atlanta put the game away early in the fourth as they use a 17-4 run to open the quarter and Miami could never dig themselves from that hole.
