Women know the microwave oven is a fast and easy way to warm or reheat foods, but the rapid warm-up doesn’t always do justice to the taste and consistency of some items – such as tortillas. Kathy Petersen of BrandStar Entertainment’s The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television will showcase a device invented by Richard and Imelda Rubin, owners of La Tortilla Loca, LLC, that works inside the microwave to assure the Mexican delights stay fresh and hot through an entire meal. The segment airs May 5th or view it anytime at www.thebalancingact.com/Latortillaloca.
The product, La Tortilla Loca Tortilla Warmer, heats tortillas perfectly, not soggy; not gooey. “Heating tortillas in the microwave has always been taboo,” says Imelda Rubin. So, the couple worked with DuPont to develop the right materials to guarantee perfect results.
Until La Tortilla Loca Tortilla Warmer hit the scene, Rubin says, there was no product available that would let you heat tortillas in a microwave without changing the flavor or characteristics.
“It takes only 90 seconds in the microwave, and you can heat up six flour tortillas that will stay hot and fresh for almost an hour,” she notes. “That means I’m out of the kitchen and with my guests enjoying the food I prepared. I’m not trapped in the kitchen keeping the tortillas warm.”
The Tortilla Warmer has a variety of other uses, too, she explains. “Like heating hot dogs while they’re in the bun. Bagels. Breakfast sandwiches. Crepes. And here’s a great idea – reheating cookies.”
“With Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, here’s a great way for families to celebrate Mexican cuisine with assured results,” says Doug Campbell , Executive VP of Programming for BrandStar Entertainment, the producers of The Balancing Act TV Show. “We know our viewers will appreciate the new approach to preparing this traditional delicacy.”
