Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron
James has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, capturing the award on
Monday afternoon after putting together a season in which he led his squad to a
league best 66 wins and the overall number one seed in the playoffs.
LeBron accepted the MVP award at
his high school alma mater Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron,
Ohio where he became one of the most recognized prep stars in the country.
After a dominant senior season at the school LeBron jumped into the NBA and
quickly became one of the league’s brightest stars, earning Rookie of the Year
honors in his first season.
Now in his sixth season as an NBA
player LeBron put together a season in which he averaged 28.4 points, 7.6
rebounds and 7.2 assists while guiding the Cavs to their most wins in franchise
history. LeBron started in 81 games over the course of the 82-game season and
was a dominant force in the Cavaliers first round playoff series against the Detroit
Pistons.
The 24-year-old LeBron became the
youngest NBA star to win the MVP award since Moses Malone earned the honor for
his 1978-79 season, 90 days younger than James.
