Bernstein Liebhard LLP Announces Filing of Denture Cream Lawsuits and Announces Good Morning America’s Coverage of Firm’s Work For Consumers Poisoned by Zinc in Denture Cream

Bernstein Liebhard LLP announced that last week it filed four lawsuits in Pennsylvania state court against GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) (“SmithKline”), et al.—the manufacturer of Super Poligrip denture cream—and a fifth lawsuit in federal court against both SmithKline, and Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG)—the ladder of which is the manufacturer of Fixodent denture cream.  The lawsuits allege that these denture creams contain zinc and caused injuries to consumers.

The firm further announced that this morning, ABC’s Good Morning America (“GMA”), in a nationally televised segment, covered the filing of the lawsuits.  The GMA segment profiled one of Bernstein Liebhard’s denture cream clients, Ellen Isaacs, and included an interview of Partner Eric Chaffin about the denture cream litigation.

Bernstein Liebhard is a nationally recognized law that is one of only two law firms in the country to be named to the National Law Journal’s Plaintiff Hot List for the past six years.  The firm is currently reviewing and filing denture cream lawsuits on behalf of consumers and may be contacted at info@consumerinjurylawyers.com for a free and confidential denture cream case evaluation.

Good Morning America (GMA) Denture Cream Interviews

The Good Morning America denture cream zinc poisoning segment may be viewed by following this link to Bernstein Liebhard’s consumer advocacy website, http://www.consumerinjurylawyers.com/denture-adhesive-cream/good-morning-america.html.  The GMA segment features a number of interviews, including:

  • an interview of partner Eric Chaffin, who is lead counsel in Bernstein Liebhard’s denture cream cases;
  • an interview of Dr. Sharon Nations, an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and lead author of “Denture Cream: An unusual source of excess zinc, leading to hypocupremia and neurologic disease” published in Neurology, 2008;
  • an interview, neurological examination and blood test of Bernstein Liebhard client Ellen Isaacs, who uses a walker for mobility and has suffered, inter alia, zinc poisoning, copper deficiency and debilitating neurological injuries allegedly caused by her use of Super Poligrip denture cream; and
  • an interview of Dr. Rachel Nardin, a neurologist with the Shapiro Clinic at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

GMA Segment Places Important Spotlight on Denture Cream Zinc Poisoning

Mr. Chaffin stated, “while other denture cream lawsuits have been filed, we believe that this is the largest group of cases filed to date by a single law firm at one time and we expect to file many more.”  Mr. Chaffin further stated that “the Good Morning America denture cream segment covers what we believe is a common story among the denture cream users who suffer from zinc poisoning.”  Poisoning symptoms for patients may start with tingling and numbness in the extremities, patients may have unexplainable blood disorders and/or may lose their sense of balance requiring them to use a cane, walker or wheelchair for mobility.  As Mr. Chaffin explained, “Unfortunately, the manufacturers who sell denture creams containing zinc do not currently warn consumers about the potential for zinc poisoning and copper deficiency.”  As a result, consumers who suffer from zinc poisoning from denture cream do not know that they are being poisoned and, “frequently they go months, if not years, without the doctors identifying the source of the zinc,” said Mr. Chaffin.  “We believe that had the manufacturers given these consumers and the medical community proper warnings, the very significant injuries to these consumers could have been avoided.  Through these lawsuits and the GMA segment, we hope that public awareness of the problem with zinc in denture cream will grow and that the companies will be forced to provide adequate warnings to consumers,” said Mr. Chaffin.
