U.S. VP Joe Biden Calls for Israel to Back Two-State Solution to End Palestinian Conflict

United States Vice-President Joe Biden has insisted that Israel must abandon its position against the creation of a Palestinian state, calling for them to back a two-state solution to end the longstanding conflict.

Biden was speaking before the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) when he stated “Israel has to work toward a two-state solution.” He went on to say Israel should halt the construction of future settlements and “dismantle existing outposts and allow Palestinians freedom of movement.”

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he was willing to return to peace talks with Palestinians he gave no indication that he would bend on the issue of statehood.

Biden also commented that Palestinian militants must end their attacks in southern Israel as well as release Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier who has been held captive by Palestinian militants since Dec. 2006.
