NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals Schedule: Cleveland Cavaliers Return to Court in Game 1 Against Atlanta Hawks

After breezing through their first round series against the Detroit Pistons the Cleveland Cavaliers will return to the court on Tuesday night as they host the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals series.

Cleveland may have a bit of rust when they take the floor as they’ve had a week off waiting for the Hawks-Miami Heat series to end. That rust shouldn’t take long to shake though as LeBron James will certainly be ready to prove he deserved the MVP award he was presented with on Monday. LeBron was dominant in the Cavs opening series but he also had plenty of support from the rest of the cast including Mo Williams, Delonte West, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anderson Varejao.

There is nothing the Cavaliers would like more than to put the Hawks away quickly as Atlanta has shown a willingness to pack it in early as they did in Games 2, 3 and 6 against the Heat. Most people aren’t giving Atlanta a shot in the series yet the Hawks did match up well with the Cavaliers in the regular season and when they actually play defense they can pose problems for the opposition.

Of course the Atlanta offense is a guessing game with enough weapons to blow a team out but lacking a consistency to truly scare a defense. While Joe Johnson has been the Hawks All-Star he has yet to step up as a court leader on the team. Atlanta does have the playoff tested Mike Bibby at the point and Al Horford down low has been a big part of the team’s defense. They also have Josh Smith who remains a bit of a mystery as he undoubtedly possesses an enormous amount of athleticism yet his decision making on the offensive end of the court needs work.

Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
