Money-saving deals website publishes latest survey results showing trends in relationship spending

New research results published this week by DiscountVouchers.co.uk, the leading retail voucher codes site, shows UK consumers are happy to pay out for the right things when they are in love. The voucher code site's latest poll showed that almost 40% believe in the mantra “there is no price on love” when it comes to spending money on the right engagement ring for their intended.

The site's latest poll showed that 11% of people still stick to the old rule of thumb of paying twice the man's salary for the right engagement ring, while 30% said that they are willing to spend as much as £500 for an engagement ring.

Also revealed by the latest DiscountVouchers.co.uk research were the facts that 57% of people are regularly taken out to dinner and 46% receive flowers in the early days of a relationship. 25% said that they are given jewellery at this stage of a relationship too while almost 20% are spoiled by being taken away for a romantic weekend. The poll also showed that just 5% of ladies are treated to some underwear by new partners.

When it comes to making a good first impression 75% will go out and buy some new clothing, while splitting a bill in half on a date is still the done thing with 65%. Looking reserved on a date is still also popular with 67% saying their would not ask for the most expensive menu item, even if they might see their favourite dish on there.

The popularity of meanness in relationships remains a negative with 25% saying they would break up with a partner due to stinginess with money. However a larger 37% said that they didn't consider this to be a big factor in the way they view a partner.

42% of respondents said they would take on an overdraft to keep a partner happy in a relationship while 94% said that they no longer expect a girl's father to stump up for wedding costs.
