NBA Scores Eastern Conference Semifinals: Cleveland Cavaliers Use Big Third Quarter to Blast Atlanta Hawks

LeBron James scored 34 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and collected four steals, Delonte West added 13 points and 9 assists and Mo Williams finished with 21 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers used a huge third quarter to blast the Atlanta Hawks 99-72 on Tuesday night to grab a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Hawks opened the first quarter flying as they jumped to an 11-4 lead but the Cavaliers climbed back and a 14-point frame from LeBron gave them a 25-21 advantage heading into the second. Cleveland looked to put the game away early in the second as they used a 9-1 run to move in front 34-22. Despite the run the Hawks wouldn’t go away an managed to climb to within four on a Mike Bibby three-pointer with 3:02 left in the half before settling for a 49-44 deficit at the break.

Atlanta managed to stay within single digits for the first six minutes of the third quarter but they had no answer to LeBron as the NBA’s MVP scored another 12 points in the frame and the Cavaliers carried a 77-61 lead into the fourth. Cleveland started the fourth with a jumper from West then a triple from Williams and put the Hawks in a 21-point hole they had no chance of climbing out of.
