NBA Scores Western Conference Semifinals: Denver Nuggets Pull Away in Fourth to Take 2-0 Lead in Series with Dallas Mavericks

Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and handed out 5 assists, Nene added 25 points and pulled down 8 boards and Chauncey Billups finished with 18 points and 8 assists as the Denver Nuggets used a fourth quarter run to bury the Dallas Mavericks 117-105 and take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals series.

The Mavericks opened the first quarter looking determined to even the series as they grabbed a 12-6 advantage with 8-points coming from Dirk Nowitzki. Denver chipped away at the lead and J.R. Smith started a 10-2 run with a pair of free-throws and the Nuggets built a 30-22 lead heading into the second. Dallas stayed close to the Nuggets and Brandon Bass hit a jumper to get the Mavs to within 40-36 but a 9-2 run from Denver gave them an 11-point cushion. The Mavericks refused to go away though as they trimmed their deficit down to 54-52 on a Ryan Hollins layup before settling for a three-point deficit at the break.

Dallas came out firing in the third quarter with both Nowitzki and Jason Terry keeping them in the game and after Terry buried a three-pointer with 5:20 left the Mavericks grabbed a 74-72 lead. The score stayed tight but the Nuggets carried an 86-83 lead into the fourth. It got ugly quick for the Mavs as the Nuggets opened the fourth with a 16-2 run and Dallas never recovered.
