Maine’s
Gov. John Baldacci has signed a bill that will legalize gay marriage following
approval from the state’s house and senate.
Baldacci
had originally opposed the idea of gay marriage but changed his stand after the
bill passed the house in an 89-57 vote and the senate in a 21-13 vote. Maine
will become the fifth state to allow gay marriage, joining Vermont,
Connecticut, Iowa and Connecticut as the only state’s approving the
controversial topic.
Earlier
this week Washington D.C. passed a law which would recognize gay marriages that
had been performed in other states.
