Wesleyan University Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, Sparks Manhunt

A Wesleyan University student was shot and killed while at a bookstore near the Connecticut campus Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting sparked a massive manhunt and all events on campus Wednesday were canceled. Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliano said he believes the public is not in danger as the shooting does not appear random. “It was focused. This wasn’t random from what I can tell. Somebody went into a bookstore and fired multiple shots at one person,” he says.

Students and staff at the private university were cautioned to remain indoors. The identity of the victim, a woman, has not been released.

No other details on the shooting were available.
