John Wall, Nation's Top Unsigned Prospect, Arrested in Raleigh Break-In

John Wall, the nation's top unsigned high school basketball prospect, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor last week.

Wall, the nation's top overall prospect by Rivals.com, was charged with breaking and entering after police saw him and others leaving a Raleigh, NC residence. He was cited in connection with an April 27 break-in of a Raleigh residence, the police said.

Police said an officer detained Wall, 18, after observing him leaving out the back of the home. Two minors were also detained and charged in connection with the break-in. Police said there was no forced entry and nothing to indicate anything was missing from the residence.

Frank Jackson, an assistant district attorney in Wake County, which includes Raleigh, told The Associated Press that a person convicted of such an offense could face up to 120 days in jail. However, he said a first-time offender would likely have to perform community service.

Wall, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound point guard from Word of God Academy in Raleigh, is currently ranked No. 1 by Rivals.com and No. 5 by ESPN, and was recently named the Associated Press North Carolina Player of the Year. Last month, he represented Team USA in the Nike Hoop Summit, scoring 13 points and 11 assists.

Wall, the consensus top point guard in the country, has narrowed his list of school down to nine schools: Florida, Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, North Carolina and NC State. He recently took a visit to Miami, but told Rivals.com that he does not have a leader yet.

However, Kentucky, a reported leader, may not be recruiting Wall as seriously anymore. The Wildcats recently signed five-star recruit Eric Bledsoe, a 6-foot-2 guard from Parker H.S. in Birmingham. People close to both Bledsoe and Wall say that neither has an effect on their decision.

No schools have reportedly backed off from recruiting Wall due to the arrest. He has until May 20 to make his decision and sign his letter-of-intent.
