California Wildfires Force Thousands to Evacuate in Santa Barbara

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency as the wildfires have scorched more than 500 acres, destroyed 20 structures and forced several thousand people to evacuate their homes in Santa Barbara.

There has been zero containment of the California wildfires as officials have determined the blaze is too dangerous. Eight firefighters have already been injured attempting to slow the fires, three of them are said to be in serious condition.

As the wildfires threaten Santa Barbara nearly 13,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate, their homes lying directly in the path of the flames.

Officials have not announced a cause for the wildfires but arson is suspected. Conditions are expected to worsen as strong winds and a dry climate further stoke the flames.
