Students Flock to California Academic Camps

California academic camps are seeing a significant enrollment for their summer enrichment programs due, in part, to the budget cutbacks within the state's educational system.

SuperCamp, which holds its California summer camps at Stanford and Cal State San Marcos, has a total of eight different 10-day sessions scheduled for July and August. Cumulatively, these sessions can accommodate over 800 middle school and high school students.

"SuperCamp has always complemented the curriculum offered in schools with its learning and life skills training for students," said Bobbi DePorter, SuperCamp president. "Now, more than ever, the skills students acquire at SuperCamp are critical to their academic success."

The results from SuperCamp's academic summer camps illustrate Ms. DePorter's point. In a study with over 6,000 SuperCamp graduates, 73 percent of them showed an increase in grades and over 80 percent reported increased self-esteem and confidence.

These enrichment programs help students in the immediate future and as they prepare for their next level academically, whether that be high school or college. The college preparation aspect of SuperCamp is another major reason why parents enroll their high school students. The teens who attend SuperCamp gain motivation, focus and a sense of self-responsibility for their future, which comes from the life skills training.

Another important appealing aspect of SuperCamp is the year-long support the students receive. Videos, e-newsletters and phone access to facilitators are all part of the added value SuperCamp builds into its program.

In addition to added value there are added savings currently available to people who enroll a student in May. These Extra Credit savings offer families several ways to save on enrollment fees and actually earn rebates by referring other students.
