Peacekeeper in Darfur Shot Dead During Carjacking

An international peacekeeper working for the United Nations and African Union peacekeeping force UNAMID was shot in killed in Sudan’s Darfur region late Thursday night following a carjacking incident just outside his residence in Nyala.

 

News of the murder was recognized by UNAMID and a statement was read by a spokesman who said, “UNAMID announces with deep regret that one of its people was shot and killed last night in south Darfur, in Nyala, during a carjacking incident.”

 

According to UNAMID,  “unidentified gunmen shot the male military observer as he was opening the gate of his residence in Nyala, the state capital, to park his vehicle. The peacekeeper was rushed to a nearby UNAMID medical centre for treatment but died upon arrival.”
