The
nearly 300 guests and staff of a Hong Kong hotel who had been quarantined for a
week due to a swine flu scare have been released after being given a clean bill
of health.
A
move to quarantine the guests and staff of the Metropark Hotel was made after a
Mexican guest who had been carrying the H1N1 virus stayed at the hotel. That
man was taken to a hospital for treatment and he was released on Friday as
well.
Upon
leaving the hotel after a week many of the guests and staff waved to
bystanders. To compensate the guests for their time in quarantine authorities
have offered them two nights of free accommodation at another luxury hotel in
Hong Kong.
As
of Friday the World Health Organization has reported 2,384 cases of swine flu
in 24 countries. About half of those cases were in Mexico where 42 deaths from
H1N1 have been confirmed. The United States has also recorded two deaths from the
virus, on being a Mexican national visiting and the other a Texas resident.
