Body of UGA Professor George Zinkhan Believed to Have Been Found

Authorities believe a body found 65 northeast of Atlanta may be that of University of Georgia professor George Zinkhan, who is accused of murdering his wife and two others.

Cadaver dogs searching for the professor discovered the body about a mile from where Zinkhan’s red Jeep Liberty was found May 1. Zinkhan, 56, is suspected of shooting his wife, prominent Athens attorney Marie Bruce, Tom Tanner and Ben Teague while the trio were at a reunion picnic for the Town and Gown Players, a theater group.

Zinkhan and Bruce apparently had an argument at the picnic. Zinkhan returned to his vehicle, where their two children were waiting, and got two handguns before returning to the picnic and shooting Bruce and the two men. Two others were wounded. He then left the picnic, drove to a neighbor’s house and told them there had been an emergency and he needed someone to watch the children, ages 8 and 10. The neighbor agreed and Zinkhan disappeared.

The body found near Zinkhan’s vehicle is being transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation laboratory for identification.

Zinkhan was a marketing professor at UGA’s Terry College of Business. The university fired him following the shooting.
