NBA Scores Western Conference Semifinals: Carmelo Anthony Hits last Second Three to Give Denver Nuggets 3-0 series Lead Over Dallas Mavericks

Chauncey Billups scored 32 points on 9-16 shooting and Carmelo Anthony finished with 31 points including a three-point bucket with one-second left on the clock to give the Denver Nuggets a 106-105 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday to take a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series.

Denver struggled from the floor in the opening frame but managed to get eight points from the free-throw line to remain even with Dallas 20-20. The Mavericks opened a five point advantage early in the second and they held that lead until Denver went on a 9-0 run that gave them a 37-33 advantage with 4:45 left in the half. The Nuggets bumped their lead to four and went into the locker room with a 48-45 lead after Carmelo Anthony answered a Dirk Nowitzki three-pointer with a bucket just before the horn.

The Nuggets managed to push their lead up to six in the opening minutes of the third quarter and had a great chance to open a big lead as the Mavericks went more than five minutes with just one field goal but they sank 12 free-throws in that stretch and trailed by just two with 1:58 left in the frame. Jason Kidd tied the game with a  driving layup and then gave the Mavs a 76-75 lead with 1:22 left after sinking a pair of free-throws and Dallas would carry that one-point lead into the fourth.

The game stayed tight in the final quarter as Dallas had a three-point lead for much of the frame and had a chance to extend that lead on a number of occasions but missed several free-throws down the stretch. Despite the misses from the charity stripe Dallas held a 105-101 lead with 31 seconds following a Jason Terry triple. Carmelo Antony cut the Nuggets deficit to two on a driving layup with 28 seconds left and after Dirk Nowitzki missed a 13-footer with 7 seconds Anthony found a way to bury a 24-footer with one tick left on the clock that gave the Nuggets the 106-105 win.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 33 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Mavs in the loss.
