Body of UGA Professor George Zinkhan Found Buried in Woods

The body of University of Georgia professor George Zinkhan was found Saturday buried in woods near Athens, Georgia.

The body was found by cadaver dogs about 1 mile from where Zinkhan abandoned his Jeep Liberty following the murder of his wife, prominent Athens attorney Marie Bruce, and two others. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the body as that of Zinkhan.

Zinkhan’s body was found “beneath the earth” and without any clothes. Two guns found by his body matched those he used to fatally shoot Bruce, 47, and two men identified as Tom Tanner, 40, and Ben Teague, 63, on April 25.

GBI agent Jim Fullington said there was a significant “effort” to conceal the body.

Zinkhan, a professor at UGA’s Terry College of Business, shot Bruce, Tanner and Teague while the trio was at a reunion picnic for the Town and Gown Players, a theater group. Zinkhan and his wife apparently had an argument at the picnic. Zinkhan returned to his vehicle, where their two children were waiting, and got two handguns before returning to the picnic and shooting Bruce and the two men. Two others were wounded. He then left the picnic, drove to a neighbor’s house and told them there had been an emergency and he needed someone to watch the children, ages 8 and 10. The neighbor agreed and Zinkhan disappeared.
