NBA Scores Western Conference Semifinals: Houston Rockets Pull Even With Los Angeles Lakers Despite No Yao Ming

Aaron Brooks scored 34 points and handed out 4 assists, Luis Scola added 11 points and 14 rebounds and Shane Battier finished with 23 points as the Houston Rockets built a big lead after three quarters and cruised past the visiting Los Angeles Lakers 99-87 on Sunday to even their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series at 2-2.

Houston tried to jump LA early as they opened with a 9-0 run to start the game and after Shane battier hit his third three-pointer of the quarter the lead was up to 17-4 and the Lakers looked stunned. Battier finished the frame with 12 points and the Rockets led by as many as 17 before settling for a 29-16 advantage heading into the second. LA’s struggles continued in the second as they fell behind by as many as 19 points and each time they tried to make a run the Rockets countered.

The third quarter belonged to Aaron Brooks as the Rockets guard dropped 17 points on the Lakers including three-three pointers and by the end of the frame Houston was in front 83-54 and LA showed no signs of life. That changed a bit in the fourth as the Lakers opened with a 13-2 run to trim their deficit to 18 points and when Shannon Brown buried a triple with 2:48 left in the game they were within 90-77 but the Rockets managed to hit their free-throws down the stretch to seal the game.
