NBA Scores Eastern Conference Semifinals: Boston Celtics Even Series with Orlando Magic on Last Second Bucket from Glen Davis

Rajon Rondo scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Paul Pierce added 27 points and Glen Davis finished with 21 points including the game-winning 21-footer as time expired to give the Boston Celtics a 95-94 road win over the Orlando Magic and even their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series at 2-2.

Both teams played even throughout the opening frame as neither could build an advantage of more than four points and it was Boston that held that 23-19 lead with 2:24 left in the frame before Orlando closed with a 9-2 run to carry a 28-25 lead into the second. The Celtics reclaimed the lead early in the second yet the two sides continued to go back and forth and it was Orlando that had the biggest lead of the frame, four points, yet Rajon Rondo put Boston in front at the break 48-46 with an 18-footer with a  second left before halftime.

The Celtics began to open things up a bit in the third quarter as Ray Allen and Paul Pierce combined to score 15 of the team’s first 19 points in the frame and they built a 67-58 lead and looked to have the Magic in trouble. That all change as Orlando went on a 9-2 spurt of their own to get within two before Boston regrouped and closed the quarter with an 8-2 run to carry a 79-71 lead into the fourth. Orlando trailed for much of the fourth but inched their way back and when Courtney Lee hit a 15-footer with 3:31 on the clock the Magic had closed to within one and after a nearly three-minutes scoreless spell from both teams Dwight Howard sank a pair of free-throws with 49 seconds left in the game for a 92-91 lead. Glen Davis answered for the Celtics as he buried a 15-footer with 32 seconds left but Davis then fouled Rashard Lewis with 11 seconds on the clock and after dropping both in the bucket Orlando was in front 94-93. Davis made up for the foul on Boston’s final possession as he drilled the game-winning 21-footer as time expired and kept the Celtics from falling in a 3-1 series hole.

Boston shot 52 percent from the floor in the game but were just 1-10 from beyond the three-point line yet they managed to overcome a 23-point, 17-rebound performance from Dwight Howard.
