Mexico Begins to Re-open Schools, Government Says Swine Flu has Peaked

Mexico has re-opened school in six of their 31 states after the government declared that the swine flu had peaked and it was now safe for students to return to the classroom.

All schools, as well as many businesses and churches, were closed in late April following the outbreak of the deadly H1N1 virus. Eventually restaurants and cafes were reopened as were libraries and churches and with the re-opening of schools Mexico is now nearing normalcy again.

Before the schools were re-opened teachers and parents spent days disinfecting the buildings and when students returned on Monday there were bottled of hand sanitizers throughout their classrooms. While the remaining schools in Mexico are expected to re-open shortly there are six states that have ordered the doors shut for an additional week as new cases of swine flu are investigated.

At least 56 deaths in Mexico have been attributed to the swine flu and more than 4,700 cases have been confirmed worldwide.
