Taliban Militants Attack Government Buildings in Eastern Afghanistan

Taliban militants have attacked two government buildings in the eastern Afghanistan city of Khost, killing at least six people and taking several more people hostage.

According to reports about 30 militants entered the city in suicide cars and wore suicide jackets while toting guns. They immediately targeted the offices of the provincial governor and municipal administration as gunfire broke out between the militants and security forces.

Both the provincial governor and Khost’s mayor were said to be unharmed in the attacks but there have been a number of injuries reported by health officials.

Khost has been hit by frequent attacks between Taliban militants and coalition forces, something the U.S. hopes to halt when they send an additional 21,000 troops to Afghanistan.
