Summer Enrichment Camp Grads More Likely To Attend College

A survey with graduates of SuperCamp, a learning and life skills summer enrichment program, shows a higher incidence of high school graduates going on to college and higher GPAs among graduates of the program

Results from a recently-fielded survey among graduates of SuperCamp, a learning and life skills academic summer camp, shows that students who attend the summer enrichment program are more likely to attend a four-year college immediately following high school than the general student population.

Seventy-seven percent of SuperCamp graduates who responded to the survey indicated they enrolled in a four-year college program. This number compares to forty-six percent of high school graduates nationally, as reported by the U.S. Department of Education.

Similarly, eighty-eight percent of graduates from the summer enrichment camp went to either a four-year or two-year college compared to sixty-five percent of students nationwide.

SuperCamp graduates also reported a cumulative high school GPA that is eleven percent higher than the national average: 3.30 versus 2.98.

An impressive forty-one percent of SuperCamp graduates received some scholarship money upon entering college and, of these students, fifty-seven percent received over $10,000.

Previous studies with SuperCamp graduates have shown significant increases in grades, confidence, self-esteem and motivation. “This latest survey illustrates the long-term value of SuperCamp, as it relates to college entrance and scholarships,” said SuperCamp president, Bobbi DePorter. “Parents who enroll their kids in SuperCamp realize that it is an investment that pays dividends for years to come.”

SuperCamp is unique among summer enrichment programs in it Quantum Learning methods of training, which are an outgrowth of accelerated learning techniques that Ms. DePorter studied over thirty years ago. In addition, SuperCamp benefits the whole individual with combined learning skills and life skills development.

Unlike traditional summer academic programs, SuperCamp is dynamic and engaging. The use of music, color, and interactive call-backs draws the students into the learning process, thereby aiding understanding and long-term retention.

SuperCamp’s 2009 summer programs are located at seven U.S. colleges. There are individual sessions for students entering grades 6-8 and for those going into grades 9-12. SuperCamp also offers a Quantum U program for students about to enter and those already in college.
