Boston Celtics forward Glen Davis has apologized for inadvertently bumping a 12-year-old fan following his 21-foot game-winning bucket that lifted his club past the Orlando Magic in Game 4 on Sunday.
Davis sank the jumper near the Magic bench and then made a mad dash down the court, bumping the young fan and knocking his hat off. The 6-foot-9, 289-pound Davis said it was an emotional moment and he did not see the boy and it was not his intention to cause any harm.
In his apology Davis stated, “If I've hurt anybody or if I've done any harm to anybody, please forgive me because my intentions were just harmless.”
Following the end of the game the boy’s father contacted the NBA and demanded an apology for Davis’ actions, stating the Celtics big man had no regard for fan safety. The NBA has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
The bucket from Davis tied the best-of-seven playoff series at 2-2 and Boston now returns home to host Orlando on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. ET.
