NBA Scores Western Conference Semifinals: Los Angeles Lakers Cruise Pat Houston Rockets to Take 3-2 Series Lead

Kobe Bryant scored 26 points, Paul Gasol added 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Andrew Bynum finished with 14 points and 6 boards as the Los Angeles Lakers pounded the Houston Rockets 118-78 on Tuesday night to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series.

The Houston Rockets started quick as they jumped to a 13-6 lead with Aaron Brooks and Ron Artest leading the way but LA began to settle into the game and used an 8-0 run to grab their first lead at 20-18 and after Luis Scola evened the game for the Rockets the Lakers closed the frame on a 15-4 run to carry a 35-24 lead into the second. It didn’t get any better for Houston in the second as the Lakers opened with the first eight points to jump in front 43-24 and led by as many as 29 before settling with a 64-39 lead at the break with Kobe leading all scorers with 20 points.

After falling apart in the first half the Rockets showed no signs of life in the third quarter as they never made a serious run at the Lakers. Houston never got any closer than 25 points as they had a difficult time hitting from the perimeter and had no game down low as the Lakers used Andrew Bynum and Paul Gasol to keep the Rockets out of the paint. LA then used a 9-0 run to close the frame and went into the fourth with a 94-54 lead. That lead was never in jeopardy as the Lakers and Rockets emptied their bench with the game decided before the frame ever started.

Houston hit just 32 percent from the floor and were 5-29 from beyond the three-point line while the Lakers were 51 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Rockets 48-41.
