NBA Western Conference Semifinals Schedule: Denver Nuggets Look to Close Out Dallas Mavericks on Home Court

The Denver Nuggets have an opportunity to wrap up their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series with the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. It’s an opportunity that many believe comes as a result of a blown call in Game 3 but Denver isn’t looking to stretch the series any longer and with the Game 5 on their home court they would like nothing more than to finish the Mavericks off and wait for the winner of the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets series.

Officials admitted they missed a late foul that came just before Carmelo Anthony buried a game-winning three-pointer in Game 3 that put the Nuggets up 3-0 in the series. Dallas came out and collected a win in Game 4 behind a huge performance from Dirk Nowitzki and it will take another big game on Wednesday if the Mavericks are to extend the series to a sixth game.

That will be no easy task as the Nuggets posted a 33-8 record at home and haven’t lost on their court in the playoffs. The Mavericks were 18-23 on the road during the regular season and have lost by double-digits in both games at Denver in their semifinals series.

Denver has been one of the most impressive teams in this year’s playoff run as Chauncey Billups, Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith have been solid while Chris Andersen, Nene and Kenyon Martin have played pivotal roles in their success. For the Mavericks to stay alive they will need to find a way to slow the Nuggets offense. They may not be able to stop Anthony but they will have to control Billups and limit the open looks from Smith if they are to have a chance.

Offensively the Mavericks will need somebody to help Nowitzki. Josh Howard had a strong Game 4 and Jason Kidd showed he still has life left but it will take an extraordinary game from both to keep Dallas alive and force the series back to Texas.

Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
