Craigslist to Drop “Erotic Services” Ads from Site, to Create Adult Category

After facing heavy criticism for providing a forum in which advertisements for prostitution and other illegal sexual activities could be posted Craigslist has agreed to remove its “erotic services” ads and create an adult category that will be monitored by employees.

Craigslist has come under fire for the erotic ads and pressure to shut down the advertisements were ramped up following the murder of a masseuse in Boston in April. The accused, Philip Markoff, is believed to have met the woman on the classifieds posting site.

While Craigslist has agreed to remove the erotic services ads they have said they will create an adult category, a section that could pose the same problems. Craigslist has said they will have employees monitor the new section and delete ads that advertise illegal activities.
