Summer Enrichment Program Teaches Students About Integrity

Founded in 1982, SuperCamp, a summer enrichment program for teens, is founded on eight key principles. Each day of the 10-day program is dedicated to one of these principles, which the program refers to as the 8 Keys of Excellence. Integrity is one of these principles, along with Failure Leads to Success, Speak with Good Purpose, This Is It, Commitment, Ownership, Flexibility, and Balance.

Integrity is first about knowing yourself – knowing your values, your desires, talents, dreams – and then being true to that self in all your actions and interactions. At SuperCamp, students learn that integrity is behavior congruent with personal values. When your actions are aligned with your values, you conduct yourself with authenticity, sincerity and wholeness. When you clarify your values, it helps you set goals that are consistent with those values. Together, your values and goals bring a sense of passion and purpose to your work and your life.

It is easy for people to act as they feel, then find some justification – any at all – for why they made that choice. Their actions are largely unconsidered in the moment. Highly successful people, in contrast, use their values to steer their actions. They reflect, then act. Their values motivate their actions, because they choose their actions to harmonize with their values. This is what teens learn through SuperCamp’s 10-day summer enrichment program experience.

One of the first
life skills that students learn at SuperCamp is that when a person’s actions and values meet, they are in ‘Integrity’. Our identity is who we are; our integrity is an expression of who we are. If you value honesty, be truthful; if you value keeping your word, follow through; and if you value friendship, then be a friend to those around you. SuperCampers learn how to check their motivation. Can you be honest enough with yourself to really admit why you’re doing something? Is it really a reflection of your values, or a reflection of what you want at the moment?

When students learn how to choose behavior to reflect their values, they move through it with authenticity, sincerity, and wholeness. When we live in integrity, it shows. People trust us more, and almost instinctively. They’ll think of you as a person of your word. You’ll be known for your strong character when you live within the realm of integrity. Through SuperCamp, students find that life becomes easier when they hold themselves accountable. They feel better about themselves and more confident in their choices and actions.

By living in integrity, good feelings pour into everything we say and do. Integrity fosters trust and respect, the cornerstones of good relationships and good relationships are vital to success in all areas of life.

SuperCamp has been committed to teaching students success for school and life since 1982. Since that time, over 50,000 students from all over the world have learned how to hold themselves accountable through their own integrity in all aspects of their lives. To learn more about
