NBA Scores Western Conference Semifinals: Denver Nuggets Knock Off Dallas Mavericks to Advance, to Face Winner of Lakers and Rockets Series

Carmelo Anthony scored 30 points, Chauncey Billups added 28 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds and Nene finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets knocked off the Dallas Mavericks 124-110 on Wednesday night to win their best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals series 4-1 and will now face the winner of the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets series.

Dallas came out strong as they jumped to a 10-4 lead but Denver settled down and after a pair of three-pointers from Billups and a jumper from Anthony they were in front 12-10. Dirk Nowitzki evened the game at 14-14 but the Nuggets used another 8-0 run to move in front 22-14 and while Dallas tried to stay close Anthony pushed the advantage to 32-21 with a triple before the frame ended with Denver in front 34-27. Jose Juan Barea pulled the Mavericks to within five with a three-pointer early in the second but once again Denver answered and quickly pushed their advantage to 11 once again. Dallas kept fighting though and were within nine with 54 seconds left on the clock but a three-pointer from Anthony and a dunk from Nene gave the Nuggets a 69-55 halftime lead matching their biggest advantage of the game.

The Mavericks came out firing in the third quarter as Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry combined for six three-pointers in the first 5:30 of the frame but the Nuggets offense continued to hit buckets and then used a huge 8-0 run to build a 93-76 lead and it looked like the Mavs were done when they went into the fourth trailing by 14. That look changed when Dallas closed to within six following a three-pointer from Nowitzki and even after Denver moved back up by ten the Mavericks climbed back to within six on a Nowitzki layup with 7:05 left in the game. The Nuggets quickly extended their lead to 11 following a Billups three-pointer and a Kenyon Martin free-throw and after Brandon Bass completed a three-point play to get the Mavs back to within eight with 5:18 Anthony and Billups hit back-to-back buckets to push the lead back up to 12 with 4:33 left and Dallas had no more runs left.

Denver shot 58 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Dallas 37-31. Nowitzki finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists in a losing effort.
